UV and Your Eyes

Ultraviolet radiation is damaging to the skin. UVA penetrates the deepest, passing through the lens onto the retina, the back surface of the eye. UVB causes sunburn and whilst less penetrating, can cause damage and sunburn to the delicate skin around the eye. Harmful rays are also emitted from computer screen and digital devices.

The sun’s rays and harmful exposure can lead to conditions like cataracts, pterigium and macular degeneration.

It is important to protect the yes from harmful rays even on cloudy days. This is done best by wearing sunglasses. Some contact lens have UVA and UVB inhibitors. Sun protection needs to commence from an early age as damage is accumulative over time.

We recommend good quality sunglasses for all Australians. Prescription sunglasses can be made to suite your individual needs.
